Tena Veverka, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Veverka was born December 29th, 1888, at Kalona, Iowa and came to Earlham with her parents in 1891.
She passed from this life at the Dexter hospital, October 27, 1950. She graduated from the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing at Des Moines, Iowa in 1925. In this profession she spent seven years. Due to failure of her health she could not continue her chosen life work. Through her years of suffering, Tena never complained. Her father and mother preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brother, Frank, her sisters, Anna Wilkie of Adel; Emma DeVore of Princton, Illinois; Bessie Mapes of Earlham; Lucille Bosley of Des Moines. Also by six nephews and two nieces, two aunts, four grand nephews, and three grand nieces, and a host of friends who will miss her greatly.
She has been a member of the Earlham Friends church since 1917. While she was not able to attend in later years, she never forgot her church.
Funeral services were held in the Friends church, Sunday afternoon, October 29, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Arthur Hadley was in charge.
The casket bearers were George Wilkie, James Wilkie, Donald Mapes, Franklyn Mapes, Ivan Pryor and Lawrence DeVore.
Fred and Helen Fry sang "In The Garden" and "Abide With Me." They were accompanied by Gertrude Conrad.
Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
