Asa LeRoy Moore was born July 3, 1868, at Iowa City, Iowa. He passed to his rest 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 1950, at the Wilden hospital, Des Moines.
Asa was the son of William and Mary Jane Moore. At the age of fifteen he came with the family, by covered wagon, from Johnson county, Iowa to Dexter. He attended the Pitzer school and the Dairy School at Ames, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Isabelle McQuie on March 1, 1894. They settled down to farming in Penn township, Madison county, where he spent the remaining days of his active life. To this union were born Bruce and Fred, and Mrs. Clara Mapes of Earlham; Mrs. Grace Hays of Winterset; and Mrs. Eva Shepard, deceased. Two brothers, Ira of Houston, Texas; Rush H. of North Hollywood, California, survives Mr. Moore, as does four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Moore was active in the life of Early Chapel Church of Christ, in his earlier days he gave much of his spare time to music, singing in the Early Chapel choir and leading the Pitzer band. He was one of the members of the building committee of Early Chapel when the present edifice was constructed.
About four years ago he was honored for fifty years' membership in the Masonic Lodge. He was a chartered member of Monona Lodge No. 339 F. & A. M. of Pitzer, now disbanded. In 1907 he became a member of Madison Lodge No. 568 F. & A. M. of Earlham.
Mr. Moore shall be greatly missed by his family and many friends. His was an active life for his advanced age. The Lord has been gracious in giving this father these many years to live and share with his loved ones.
