CHARLES SMITH Funeral Held

Charles H. Smith, a long-time resident of Winterset who served as superintendent of the Winterset Light and Power plant over a long period of years, died Thursday, Jan. 13, at a hospital in Vallejo, Calif., after a brief illness. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Smith was born at Primrose, Iowa, on June 29, 1878, a son of Christ and Henrietta Wendt Smith. He came to Winterset in 1918, and was light plant superintendent here for about 20 years.

He was married Jan. 25, 1906 to Nora Roberts. Her death occurred in 1960, after which he moved to California to be near his son, Donald R. Smith of Vallejo.

He had been a member of the Masonic lodge at Winterset since 1921, and was active in the Winterset Presbyterian church.

He is survived by the son, Donald R. Smith of Vallejo, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. John Visquain
of Omaha and Mrs. Harry D. Young of Pittsburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. E. P. Fenton of Napa, Ida., and Mrs. Bruce Bradford of Farmington, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church in Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with Masonic rites at the graveside.
