William D. Smith, a long-time resident of the Truro community died last Wednesday, May 2, 1962, at Wadsworth, O., where he had been living with his daughter, Mrs. Faie Yeaman.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 16, 1873, at Newcomerstown, O. In 1878 he came to Iowa with his parents, Andrew and Barbara Smith. They settled on a farm in Clarke county and that was his home until January, 1951, when he moved into Truro.
He was married June 5, 1896, to Henrietta Holmes, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, George Smith of St. Charles and Ormil Smith of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Yeaman of Wadsworth, O., and Mrs. Fern Mahaffa of Aptos, Calif.; two brothers, Jesse Hosfelt of Kimbolton, O., and Geore Hosfelt of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Dutton of Kimbolton; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, with burial in the Hartman cemetery there.

Page 6, Column 1William D. Smith was born Nov. 16, 1873, in Newcomerstown, Ohio. His great heart and mind was stilled May 2, 1962.
Andrew and Barbara Smith adopted him at nine months. They moved to Iowa in 1878, settling in Clarke county on a farm, where he lived until January, 1951, when he moved to Truro, Ia.
Mr. Smith married Henrietta Holmes June 5, 1896. Seven children were born to this union, five sons and two daughters.
Surviving him are two sons, George of St. Charles; Ormil of Oakland Calif; two daughters Faie Yeaman of Wadsworth, Ohio Fern Mahaffa of Aptos, Calif.; two brothers, Jesse Hosfelt of Kimbolton, Ohio; George Hosfelt of Detroit, Mich.; one sister Hattie Dutton of Kimbolton, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife Henrietta, three sons, Russell, Hassel and Larro; two brothers and one sister.
After his wife’s death in 1957, Mr. Smith went to live with his daughter, Faie Yeaman in Wadsworth, Ohio where he died.
Funeral services were held at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. He was buried beside his wife in the Hartman Cemetery near Truro on Monday, May 7.
