WILLIAM C. SMITH Buried Wednesday

William C. Smith, a long-time resident of Madison county, died Nov. 7 at his farm home in Lincoln township, following a heart attack. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Smith was born near Salina, Kan., on Dec. 21, 1875, a son of Robert and Mary Jane Smith. When he was 5 years old he came to Madison county with his parents and, with the exception of three years in Missouri and 10 years in northern Iowa and Minnesota, this community remained his home.

He was married in 1901 to Susie Shafer of Indianola. They lived near Bevington and later near St. Charles before moving to Lincoln township. Mrs. Smith died in 1945.

He leaves one son, Roy Smith of St. Charles; three brothers, Julius, Robert and Alexander Smith, all of San Francisco, Calif.; and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Johnson and Mrs. Susie Olson of San Francisco, and Mrs. Agnes Clark of West Des Moines.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Blair Chapel church in charge of the Rev. Oren Hall. Burial was made in the cemetery there.
