PIONEER WOMAN DIES NEAR TRURO

Mrs. Jemima McGinnis Was Born Near St. Charles in 1857

Mrs. Jemima McGinnis, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died last Thursday night, Jan. 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ada Crawford, east of Truro. She was 92 years of age. She was a member of the pioneer family that included her sister, Mrs. Mollie Roberts, and her brother, J. F. Johnston.

Mrs. McGinnis was born Aug. 24, 1857, four miles southwest of St. Charles, a daughter of John M. and Hester McKeown Johnston. With the exception of two winters in Florida and the last six years at the home of her daughter near Truro, Mrs. McGinnis spent her entire life on the farm within a few miles of her birthplace.

At the age of 22 years she was married to James Y. McGinnis of St. Charles. Fifty years later they observed their Golden Wedding anniversary. Her husband died in 1933.

She was a member of the St. Charles Methodist church and was a member and past matron of the St. Charles Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McGinnis was preceded in death by a daughter, Mollie Iona, a sister, Mrs. Mollie Roberts of St. Charles and seven brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Ada Crawford of Truro, a sister, Mrs. Hester Switzer of Lake Worth, Fla., five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the St. Charles Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. O___ Hall. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
