Rosa Ellen Cook, eldest child of Harmon and Lucinda Cook was born in the Bear Creek neighborhood, near Earlham, Iowa April 11, 1863 and departed this life December 31, 1949 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boyd Tyer of Waukee, at the age of 86 years, eight months and 20 days.

She was one of the family of seven children. At the age of eight with her parents, a younger brother and sister moved to Wiscotta where they father worked in the wollen mills. In 1872 they moved to Lyon county in northwestern Iowa where Rosa went to school and attended meeting at the little Friends Meeting known as Dale Church. At the age of 17 she went with the family to Florida where they expected to make their home, but owing to sickness in the family and the death of the mother, they returned to Iowa a few months later.

On May the 4th, 1886 she was united in marriage to Joseph H. Macy of Earlham. To this union was born nine children, three sons, Aaron of Burnt Woods, Oregon; Charles of Torrington, Wyoming; Phillip of Vancouver, Washington; six daughters, Mrs. Dora Hougham of Booneville; Mrs. Bertha Rush of West Des Moines; Mrs. Jo Minor of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Edith Tyer of Waukee; and Rose Rippey of Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Mary Landis who preceded her in death nin and a half years ago.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alva Carey of Earlham. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, also nieces, nephews, and host of friends.

She was a devout follower of her Master and was ready to testify for Him. She was a birthright member of the Friends church and remained faithful through life.

Funeral services were held in Earlham Friends Church. Burial in Bear Creek cemetery.

One sister survived Mrs. Alva Carey of Earlham.
