Mary L. Smith of Greenville, Tenn., died March 6, 1998, at Laughlin Healthcare Center in Greeneville.
Graveside service were held March 10 at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo, Calif.
Mary L. Smith graduated from Winterset High School in 1927 and from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1929. She was the deputy court clerk of Madison County, Iowa, for several years. She married Donald R. Smith on June 28, 1930, in Winterset, where they resided until 1942, when they moved to Napa, Calif. In 1950, they moved to Vallejo, Calif., where she and her husband were very active and operating a duplicate bridge club. They served as bridge directors for the P & O Cruise Lines. Mrs. Smith was a Life Master of the A.C.B.L. and a member of the Elks Club. She also belonged to the Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Vallejo General Hospital Guild, earning a service award for 4,000 hours of volunteering.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, Donald R. Smith, and by her second husband, Robert P. Smith.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Valentino (husband Robert) of Greeneville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Walker of Gilroy, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville was in charge of arrangements.
