Bernard E. Rees, Winterset

A funeral mass for Bernard E. Rees, 85, was held Mon., March 9 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Father Frank Palmer officiating. A rosary and Scripture service were held Sunday. Mr. Rees died March 6 at Winterset Care Center South of complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born December 14, 1906 in Sioux City to Edward and Albia (Perasso) Rees and married Veldeva Morris May 7, 1971 in Lorimor. He was a retired groundskeeper at Lakeview Country Club, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 8142. He was a longtime Winterset resident, coming from Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Kelley.

Surviving are his wife of Winterset; a son, Tony of Cedar Rapids; a step-son, Jim Morris of Peru; a step-daughter, Bea Ann Penn of Des Moines; his mother-in-law, Ina Kelley of Winterset; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Collins Funeral Home handled arrangements and military graveside services were held by V.F.W. Post 8142 at Winterset Cemetery where his ashes were interred. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Alzheimers Association or St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
