A funeral service was held Saturday, April 10, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola for Vera Mildred Reed, a former Winterset resident who died April 7 at Clarke County Hospital. She was 80 years old.
Born in Adair County on Oct. 31, 1901, she was the daughter of William and Emma Cue Cole. She attended Emmetsburg, Estherville and Leon Schools.
On June 29, 1921, she married Claude Reed in Indianola. Mr. Reed operated a plumbing and heating business in Winterset for several years. A homemaker, Mrs. Reed resided in Osceola for the last 20 years, attending First Christian Church there.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Emma May; two brothers, Scott and William; and four sisters, Minnie, Zelma, Marie and Elizabeth.
Survivors include her husband, Claude of Osceola; four daughters, Margaret Dunbar of Ankeny, Marie Farris of Highland, Ind., Wilma Oglesbee and Fern Benge of Des Moines; a sister, Ella Gibson of Osceola; a brother, Melvin Cole of Hemet, Calif.; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Roy Ives officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Madison County.
