Robert Leo "Bob" Reed, Des Moines

Funeral services for Robert Leo "Bob" Reed, 82, were held Wed., May 6 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove with the Rev. Scott C. Hill officiating. Mr. Reed died May 3 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines.

He was born August 23, 1909 in Madison County to Austin B. and Altha Mae (Beardsley) Reed and graduated from Peru High School in 1928. He married Myrtle Smith on September 22, 1930 at Indianola.

He was employed as an industrial and commercial electrician, retiring in 1977. He lived in Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa, moving to Des Moines in 1959. Bob and his wife visited every state except Alaska and North Dakota in search of his Kale, Arnold, Foster and Reed progenitors of Madison County. He was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church, Des Moines, the Auburn Masonic Lodge and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He entered Clearview Care Center, Prairie City on March 4.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a half-sister.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Leola M. Asche of Eagle Grove and M. Eileen Reed of Urbandale; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

ROBERT LEO REED

Robert Leo Reed was born August 23, 1909, the son of Austin B. and Altha Mae Beardsley Reed, in Madison County, Iowa. He received his education in the Peru, Iowa, school system and graduated from Peru High School in 1928.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle Smith of Peru on September 22,1930, at Indianola, Iowa. Employed as an industrial electrician, Robert and Myrtle have lived in many states, including Kentucky, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. He retired in 1977. The couple lived in Des Moines, Iowa since 1959.

Robert and Myrtle enjoyed extensive studies of their family genealogy and spent much of their free time traveling the United States, having visited every state except Alaska and North Dakota.

On May 3, 1992, Robert passed away at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, following a short illness. He had attained the age of 82 years, eight months, and 10 days.

He leaves in passing his wife, Myrtle of Des Moines; two daughters, Leola (Mrs. Joe) Asche of Eagle Grove, and M. Eileen Reed of Urbandale, Iowa; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded In death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Edwin, and a half-sister, Alma Beem.

He was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church, Des Moines, the Auburn Masonic Lodge, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.).

Funeral services for Robert Leo Reed were held on May 6,1992 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Reverend Scott C. Hall of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
