EDITH D. REED

Edith D. Reed, the daughter of William and Mary M. Davis Strong was born in Madison County, Iowa on August 2, 1897. She passed away May 29 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

She grew up in the Earlham community and attended the Earlham schools.

She worked for many years at Woolworth's Department Store in Des Moines, and she and her husband, Clyde owned and operated a Texaco service station and restaurant on the east side of Des Moines for about 20 years. Clyde passed away in 1953.

Edith was affiliated with the Methodist Church and was a very active and dedicated member of the Rebekah Lodge for many years.

Since leaving her Des Moines home she has been a resident at Earlham Manor for almost three years.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Belle Kessner of Key Biscayne, Florida, and two nieces and one nephew, Sheldon Strong of Earlham. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and seven brothers.

Services were conducted at McKee Funeral Home on June 1, 1981 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Butz officiating.

Interment was at Earlham Cemetery.
