Joseph P. Crawford was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, on May 30, 1831 and departed this life Feb. 12, 1916 at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 12 days.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca Phillips, Feb. 16, 1865. To this union were born six children: Charles, Jonathan, Ellis, Solomon, Addie and Elizabeth.
Mr. Crawford came to Iowa wih family and settled on Oct. 8, 1869 on the farm near Middle river, in Madison county, which has since been his home. Mr. Crawford was of a quiet, unassuming disposition. He was reared in a Quaker home and held to that faith as his religious choice.
Twelve years ago he lost the use of his eyes and all through his suffering and affliction he bore it with patience.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his beloved companion, six children, two sisters, living in Pennsylvania and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the home by Rev. Grigsby at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 14th, and interment took place in the Roberts Cemetery. (Adair County, Iowa).
