John Robert Holloway was born in Washington county, Kentucky, in 1850 and died at his home in this city, Feb. 8, 1916, aged 65 years and four months.
When but a young man he left Kentucky and settled in Franklin county, Kansas, where he was married to Florence Wagor, March 16, 1880. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Carrie Mower of Caldwell, Idaho; Robert, who died in infancy; Mrs. Rosa Kipp, of this city; Lizzie, who died in 1912, Fred, of Waterloo and Mrs. Jessie Wright of this city.
The deceased came to Madison county in the summer of 1883 and has made this place his home ever since that time. He has been for several years engaged in the ice business in this city and until a few weeks before his death, looked after this business in person.
He was a member of Winterset camp No. 302, M.W.A. and always enjoyed attending their meetings and doing anything in his power for the betterment of the camp. He was well known throughout the county and for several years has been a familiar figure on our streets.
Besides the widow and children, he leaves ten grandchildren, three brothers: Aaron of Copeland, Kansas and George and J. C. Holloway of Hutchinson, Kansas; and two sisters: Mrs. Rosa Williams of Nickerson, Kansas and Mrs. Sam Humphrey of Bloomfield, Kentucky.
By his death, the wife lost a devoted husband, the children a kind and loving father and the community an earnest and upright citizen.
