Mrs. Alvina Baker who has been an inmate of the county asylum for twenty years died near noon Monday and was buried at 3 o’clock Tuesday.

Page 5, Column 2Mrs. Baker, a blind and insane woman at the county poor farm, died Monday afternoon. She had been a county charge for a great number of years and has been totally blind for over ten years and more or less insane for forty years. She had two or three children who were insane.
________________________Coordinator's note: The deceased along with daughter, Ester, are found at the poor farm in the 1895 Iowa State census. The deceased's first and maiden name are found in an 1884 Madison County Marriage Record for son John. Her middle name comes from the Iowa Death Certificate for daughter Margaret.
