Wednesday, March 17, 1915James Rogan died at his home in Douglas Township yesterday. He had lived in the Stringtown neighborhood, eight miles northwest of Winterset, for about fifty-three years and was among the early settlers of that township.
He was born in Scotland on October 5, 1840. He leaves a wife, several children, one brother, who lives in Arkansas, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Vaughn and Mrs. Charles Allgeyer, both of whom reside in Winterset. Funeral services will be held tomorrow and burial will be at the Stringtown Cemetery, near the old Rogan homestead.

James Rogan, son of James and Elizabeth Rogan, Was born in Creetown, Scotland, Oct. 5, 1840 and died at his home March 15, 1915, being 74 years, 5 months and 10 days old.
He came with his parents in 1852 to Joliet, Ill., where he later learned the trade of masonry, which work he followed a number of years. In 1865 he, with his parents, came to Madison county, Iowa, settling on a farm, where he made his home ever after.
Dec. 26, 1875 he was united in marriage to Julia Welch, of Fond Du Lac, Wis. To this union were born six children: Jessie M. Perkins, Elizabeth Perry, Chas. C., James, Jr., Mary Alice, and Waldron W., all being with him in his late illness. Besides these to mourn his losss, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Vaughan and Mrs. Chas. Allgeyer, both of Winterset, and one brother, John, of Eggar, Ark.
The funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Father White, and interment was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
In the death of Mr. Rogan we lose a good substantial citizen, upright in all his dealings, honored and respected by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving husband and father, faithful to the family one and all till God called him to the home beyond.
