JIM BEVERLIN, Michigan

Ernest Clark “Jim” Beverlin, 88, died Dec. 3, 2006, at Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart, Mich.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, at Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery with military rites performed by VFW Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

Jim Beverlin was born Jan. 31, 1918, to Omer P. and Penelope Kate (Clark) Beverlin of Peru and was a graduate of Peru High School. On May 17, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elaine Joan Husted at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Jim served in the United States Navy on the USS California during World War II. He also was a pipe layer for the Natural Gas Pipeline Company, retiring in 1983 following 40 years of service. He and his wife lived in Truro, Knoxville, Sigourney and Newton before moving to Michigan two and one-half years ago. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Retired Senior Volunteers, both in Newton.

He was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Clark Beverlin; three brothers, Corwin, Dale and Bob; and four sisters, Lorraine, Lois, Reva and Bernice.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Mears, Mich.; two daughters, Rebecca Joan Rickhoff of Mears, Mich., and Marsha Ann Vampatella of Inverness, Fla.; a brother, Carroll Beverlin of Winterset; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program.
