Mrs. J. E. Salsbury Dies

Mrs. J. E. Salsbury, of Patterson, died at her home Monday afternoon about one o'clock, following a nine week illness. Mrs. Salsbury who was 65 years of age, had lived in Crawford township for the past twenty-eight years.

The Rev. E. L. Patterson conducted her funeral services, Wednesday afternoon, June 19th, at the home, at two o'clock.

She leaves her husband and four children; Mrs. R. H. Shacklee, and Lee, Herbert H. and J. C. Salsbury, all of Patterson. Two sons had preceded the mother in death. She also leaves two brothers and three sisters who reside in Ohio.

Rhoda Salsbury

Rhoda Cook, daughter of John and Sarah Cook, was born the 24th day of September, 1869 in Adams county, Ohio, and passed away at her home in Patterson, June 17, 1935, after an illness of eight weeks.

She grew to womanhood in Ohio moving with her parents to Illinois at the age of 17 which was in 1886.

She was united in marriage with Jesse E. Salsbury in Woodland, Illinois on June 12, 1888.

Six children were born to this union: James Salsbury, Etta Shaklee, Russell Salsbury, died in France during the world war, Adda Salsbury, died in 1913, Herbert Salsbury and Lee Salsbury, the living children all residing in this community.

She became a Christian and joined the Methodist church in Patterson about 1914.

Mrs. Salsbury was a member of the Legion auxiliary of Winterset. She was a member of the Rebeka lodge while there was a chapter in Patterson.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband who is ill, having suffered his present illness for 20 months. Mrs. Salsbury took full care of Mr. Salsbury during this time until her illness. The four living children five brothers and sisters Vina Martin, Tabitha Kennedy of Xenia, Ohio; Marion Cook and John Cook of Peebles, Ohio, and Ella Salsbury of Winterset; and nine grandchildren.
