Lucie Ellen Porter, Winterset

Graveside services for Lucie Ellen Porter were held Sunday, June 12, at the St. Charles cemetery. She died June 9 at Bethesda Care Center in Winterset at the age of 85.

A daughter of Fletcher and Alberta Dowler Porter, she was born Jan. 9, 1903 at Truro. She graduated from Truro high school, Cedar Falls Teachers college, and gained advanced studies at Greeley, Colo.

A long time school teacher, she lived in Sioux City, Ia., for many years before moving to Bethesda Care Center. She was a member of the Methodist church in Sioux City.

Surviving are three nephews, Carl Beeler of Truro, Dick Shutt of East Moline, Ill., and Bill Beller of Earlham; and a niece Alberta McFarland of Gowrie, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina Beeler and Josie Shutt; and a brother, Boyd Porter.

Officiating at the burial service was the Rev. Ann Louise Weisenfluh of Truro.

Lucie Porter Rites Sunday

Graveside services for Lucie Ellen Porter, 85, of the Bethesda Care Center, Winterset who died Wednesday, June 8, 1988 at the center,, were held Sunday, June 12 at St. Charles Cemetery. Ann Louise Weisenfluh of Truro officiated.

Mrs. Porter was born January 9, 1903 at Truro, the daughter of Fletcher Porter and Alberta Dowler Porter. She attended Truro High School, Cedar Falls Teachers’ College and had advanced courses at Greeley, Colorado. She was a teacher. She lived several years in Sioux City before moving to the Bethesda Care Center. She was a member of the Teachers’ Association, several other clubs and the Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include nephews, Carl Beeler and wife Louise of Truro; Dick Shutt and wife, Dorothy of East Moline, Illinois and Bill Beeler and wife, Donna of Earlham, Iowa and niece Alberta McFarland of Gowrie, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Nina Beeler and Josie Shutt; one brother, Boyd Porter; two nieces, Josephine Neidt and Nola Collins and nephew, Fletcher Shutt.
