DANIELLE JEAN “DANI” PORTER

Danielle Jean “Dani” Porter, 18, died April 5, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born Feb. 16, 1987, in Des Moines and grew up on a farm west of Truro where she loved her cats, riding the four-wheeler through the pastures, writing songs with her guitar and sitting among her beloved books.

Dani (known by her friends as D.J.), was a senior at Interstate 35 High School in Truro and was involved in choir, speech and art club. She was also a member of a writing group that met at Borders bookstore in Des Moines.

Dani was full of creative life and lived to write, read and create art and music. Her many art pieces covered the walls of her room and at school, she was known as an outstanding artist. Every experience was a potential poem to Dani. She filled many notebooks with her poetry, stories and songs. Her “senior spot” in the Aril issue of the school newspaper described her in the following way: “Picture a box. Now look as far outside of that box as possible. ‘Outside of the box’ is probably the most accurate way to describe such a creative ad straightforward individual as Dani.”

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Fon and Jean Porter.

Dani lived deeply and loved deeply. She is survived by her parents Tim and Becky Porter of Peru; two sisters, Leah Driscoll and husband Mike of Stillwater, Minn. And Lindsey Meckley and husband Jason and their daughter Eleanor of Harrisburg, Pa.; brother, Matthew Porter of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; grandparents, Don and Esther Smith of Peru; extended relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Danielle Jean Porter were held April 9 at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles, Pastor Doug Helton officiating. Pianist was Laurie McKinney and soloist, Terry Smith sang Be Thou My Vision. Special music selection was Restore My Soul.

Casket bearers were Chad Neely, Chad Porter, Shane Johnston, Ryan Pfeiffer, Nick Smith and Nate Smith. Interment was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a creative arts scholarship at Interstate 35 High School.

Arrangements were made by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
