Wm. C. Poffinbarger

William Christian Poffinbarger was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, August 14, 1846 and died at his home in De Soto, Iowa, July 15, 1919. He moved to Winterset in 1859. Enlisted in the 47th Iowa Infantry in 1864, serving under Captain Goshorn and was honorably discharged with his regiment. He was united in marriage to Miss Hulda Bieson and to this union five children were born, one dying in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, R. A. and Bert of Minneapolis, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha McGowan and Mrs. Earl GaNoleg, De Soto, three brothers and one sister besides twelve grandchildren. He united with the Missionary Baptist church when a boy and in later years transferred his membership to the Christian Church of De Soto of which church he was a consistent member until his death. Funeral services were held in the church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Williams of Des Moines and Rev. Hall of De Soto. The remains were laid to rest in the De Soto cemetery where brief services were conducted by the Grand Army Post of Adel.
