Mrs. America M. Guiberson
Mrs. America M. Guiberson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Neva E. Lucas, of West Filmore street, Wednesday, July 4th at 12:30 p. m. after and illness of several months’ duration. Although a great sufferer, yet by her strong will, she was able (line unreadable) her last sickness was resigned and willing to depart this life, enduring the suffering which came upon her with fortitude and patience.
Mrs. Guiberson was the last member of a pioneer family to pass away, being the youngest daughter of Basil and Ann Pursel, born in Crawfordsville, Ind., Jan. 19, 1843. In October of 1850 her parents emigrated to Madison county and settled on a farm in Union township, and it was in this locality that she passed the greater part of her life, as, after her marriage on Nov. 8, 1866 to William B. Guiberson, the family home was established in this township and Mrs. Guiberson did not change her residence until in 1911, when she came to Winterset with her daughter.
The four children who were born to this union survive: Carver Pursel of Telluride, Colo., George Frederick, Neva E. and Thomas Irvin, all of Winterset. They were present and with her during her last sickness and death. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Josephine Lucas and Jo Guiberson, a number of nieces and one nephew. The husband predeceased her Dec. 24, 1901.
Mrs. Guiberson in early girlhood united with the First Presbyterian church of Winterset and never changed her membership, being a firm believer in this faith, though for years unable to attend public services. In her early years she had a wide acquaintance in this county and to the last was good authority on any historical event which was being discussed. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, who honor her for the sterling qualities which she possessed.
Funeral services were held at the residence Friday, July 6th, conducted by Rev. Cable, assisted by E. R. Zeller, and interment was made in Rock City cemetery.
