Former Resident Dies in Nebraska

Word was received here Wednesday of the death at St. Paul, Nebr., Tuesday night of Mrs. Elwood Beem, formerly of Winterset. Mrs. Beem was the former Frances Spence, daughter of Mrs. John Spence of this community.

Funeral services and burial will be held at Winterset, but arrangements had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press.

MRS. ELWOOD BEEM BURIED AT WINTERSET

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Richards Funeral home here for Mrs. Elwood Beem, whose death had occurred Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the hospital in St. Paul, Nebr.

Mrs. Beem was 36 years of age, and had been in rapidly failing health since last spring.

She was the former Frances Spence, daughter of John and Gertrude Spence, and was born near Winterset Nov. 16, 1919. When she was 3 years old she moved to Winterset with her parents and attended school here, graduating from Winterset high school with the class of 1937.

She was married to Elwood Beem on June 14, 1948. He was employed by a bridge construction company, and they have lived in several communities. They moved from Lincoln, Nebr., to St. Paul two years ago.

She joined the Winterset United Presbyterian church as a young girl.

Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs. Gertrude Spence of Winterset; two children, Kenneth and Harriett Jo Beem; a sister, Josephine Spence of Winterset, and a brother, Wallace Spence of Clarion. Her father died April 12, 1951.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. S. C. Picken, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
