JOSEPH SAYRE DIES SUDDENLY

Winterset Resident, Aged 64 Years, Stricken by Heart Attack

Joseph E. Sayre, a life-long resident of Madison county, died suddenly at his home in Winterset Sunday, Aug. 5, following a heart attack. He was 64 years of age.

Mr. Sayre was born at St. Charles Sept. 6, 1891. He was a painter by trade, and lived near Patterson before coming to Winterset, where he had made his home in recent years. He was a son of Worthington and Aseneth O'Dell Sayre.

Surviving are his wife; six children, Rex Sayre of Kensington, Minn., Mrs. Thelma Thomas of Van Meter, Mrs. Doris Towred of Des Moines, and Joe, Jack and Althea Kay Sayre, all at home. He also leaves a brother, Glenn Sayre of Franklin, Minn., and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Ragan of Franklin, Mrs. Edith Cutchall of McConnellburg, Pa., and Mrs. Clara Burd of Winterset.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial is to be made in the Winterset cemetery.

LAST RITES HELD FOR JOE SAYRE, 64

Funeral services for Joe E. Sayre, 64, were held last Wednesday, Aug. 8, from the Winterset Methodist church.

Joe Earnest Sayre, the son of Worth and Asenath Sayre, was born at St. Charles on Setp. 6, 1891. His grandfather, the late Absoleen Sayre, was one of the pioneer settlers and ministers of South township.

In 1915 he was united in marriage to Anna Roan of Orient. She died in 1935. They were the parents of three children, Rex of Kensington, Minn., Mrs. Raymond (Thelma) Thomas of Van Meter, and Mrs. Calvin (Doris) Towrea of Des Moines.

In 1943 Mr. Sayre married Martha Blizzard of Winterset, who survives. They were the parents of three children: Asenath Joe, age 12; Jack Eugene, age 11 and Althea, age nine months.

He is survived by his wife and six children, a brother, Glen of Franklin, Minn; three sisters, Mrs. Cap Burd of Winterset, Mrs. Edith Cutchall of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Nelson Ragan of Franklin, Minn.; and nine grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

For the past 12 years, Mr. Sayre had been engaged as painter here. He was a member of the Methodist church.
