Fern Elizabeth Peterson, Winterset

Fern Elizabeth Peterson, 77, of Winterset died from a heart ailment Monday, Feb. 23, 1998 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Turner and Pastor Larry Smith officiating.

Fern Peterson was born Nov. 22, 1920 in Cherokee, Iowa, to M. B. and Effie Mae (McCullough) Woodley. She was a 1939 graduate of Lorimor High School. On May 20, 1940, she married John A. Peterson. She had lived in Winterset since 1993 and prior to that had resided in Lorimor since 1936.

She was a member of the Church of God in Lorimor.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; a daughter, Pamela Lillie; and a brother, Marvin Woodley.

Survivors are a son, Larry L. Peterson (wife Barbara of Madrid; a daughter, Joy Willey (husband Doug) of Ankeny; two brothers, Ronald Woodley (wife Norma Jane) of Lorimor and Merritt Woodley (wife Phyllis) of Winterset; a sister, Velma Estell of San Fernando, Calif.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
