Wednesday, March 21, 1956ELIZABETH HAYNES SERVICES WEDNESDAY
Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the St. Charles Methodist church for Mrs. Elizabeth Haynes, whose death had occurred Sunday, March 11, at a St. Charles nursing home.
Mrs. Haynes, a resident of Iowa for almost three quarters of a century, was 89 years of age at her death. She was a native of Missouri, where she was born at Savannah on June 13, 1866. She was the former Elizabeth Ann Johns, daughter of Sanford and Rebecca Johns.
When she was 18 years old she came with her parents to Iowa, making the trip in a covered wagon. She was married Sept. 11, 1884, to Marquis Lafayette Haynes. They were parents of seven children, one daughter preceding the mother in death. The husband also died many years ago.
She was a member of the Methodist church at Hanley and St. Charles.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Edna Landers of Thayer, Mrs. Ida Johnston of Perry and Mrs. Flora Golliday of Des Moines; three sons, George Haynes and Clarence Haynes of Des Moines and Roy Haynes of St. Charles; 21 grandchildren; and 38 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Elson Haworth. Burial was made in Blair Chapel cemetery.
______________________________________________________________Coordinator's note: Although Elizabeth did live in Missouri, her parents were married in Madison County, Iowa and every census she is listed in, including those in Missouri, say she was born in Iowa. The 1885 and 1895 censuses both say Madison County. It is believed that her Missouri birth as reported in this obituary is erroneous.
