Irven “Murp” Mitchell, 79, of Afton died of a heart attack Thursday at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton, with burial at Moon Cemetery in Macksburg.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Victory Township in Guthrie County. He also lived in Dodge Township in Union County before moving to Afton in 1994. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons, Jim of Creston, Bob of Afton and Keith of Thayer, two daughters, Sheryl Harrell of Afton and Judy McCarthy of Tingley, a brother, Burdette of Afton; three sisters, Gertrude Campbell of Redfield, Ruth Mains of Dexter and Beverly Jean Kirkendall of Monroe; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
