Death of John T. McDonald

John T. McDonald, for many years a resident of this county, died last Thursday, October 24th, at his home, near Earlham, at the age of 53 years. Over twenty years ago he was stricken with rheumatic fever, and he had been in poor health at times, since then. This brought on heart trouble, which caused his death.

Mr. McDonald was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McDonald, of Douglas township. On January 15, 1902, he was married to Bertha E. McCorkle. They moved to a farm in the Fairview neighborhood, where they resided for eighteen years. From there they moved to a farm near Waukee, where they lived until in 1927, when they moved to their present home in the Bear Creek neighborhood.

Mr. and Mrs. McDonald are the parents of four children, one, Ruby Marie, having died in 1908; Mrs. Alice Riegle, of Booneville; Merritt, of Park River, North Dakota; Mabel and Joseph, of Earlham. These children and their mother survive him. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Teresa McDonald, his brothers, Frank, Edward and Cyrus, of Winterset, and his sisters, Ella, Effie and Lily, also of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at the Friends church in Earlham, last Sunday afternoon and relatives and friends from Winterset, De Soto, Dexter, Adel, Waukee, Ames, Grand Junction, Diagonal and Redding, were in attendance. Many were present also from five country church communities, where he had relatives or had resided: Penn Center, Pitzer, West Star, Fairview and Maple Grove. The service was in charge of his pastor, Mrs. Bernice Riddle, of Bear Creek, assisted by Miss Aileen Wynkoop, of Fairview, and Donald Ferrie, of Waukee, who gave tributes of his life at each place.
