Thursday, February 23, 1956Agnes Pauline Osborn, daughter of Herman and Mary Richter, was born at Dexter, Iowa, on June 23, 1880, and died at her home in Earlham, on February 13, 1956, being in her seventy-fifth year.
While she was still very young, her parents moved to Panora, Iowa. There she lived until after she had completed her high school education.
On August 22, 1906, she was married to Orman Osborn of Earlham. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August. Their first home was at Smith Center, Kansas, where they lived a few years. Orman’s work as a builder led them to short residences in a number of communities in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and included some fifteen years in San Diego, California. During and after the First World War they spent three or four years in Earlham. In 1935 they returned to Earlham to live in the old stone house where Orman lived as a boy.
Agnes joined the Friends church at Earlham in 1919. She was active in the Ladies Aid Society, and rendered useful service to the church in many ways.
Together with her husband she was a lover of flowers, and their garden has been an annual place of beauty. She was a member of the local Garden Club.
During the last few years her ill health has confined her most of the time to her home. But in her afflictions she has been cheerful and patient.
Agnes was the fifth of thirteen children. Of these she is survived by Bertha Platt of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Emma O’Malley of Portland, Oregon; Edward Richter of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Alice Brunson of Reinbeck, Iowa; Nettie Lowe of Sac City, Iowa, and Alta Nielson of Storm Lake, Iowa. Her many friends at Earlham and elsewhere join these relatives and a number of nieces and nephews in their sorrow over her passing, and extend their sympathy and love to Orman, her husband in his bereavement.
