Morgan Anthony Day, 57, of rural Greenfield died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Penn Center Methodist Church in rural Earlham. Burial was in the Penn Center Cemetery.

Morgan Day was born July 29, 1949 in Denver, Colo., the son of Scott and Florence (Morford) Day. Morgan was raised on a farm in Madison county. He graduated from Earlham High School with the Class of 1967. Following graduation, Morgan attended college in Miami, Okla. for two years. He furthered his education and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames.

On Aug. 30, 1969, Morgan married Michel (Mikey) Merritt in Lanesboro.

Morgan worked as a farm manager for Curtis Allen and then as a ranch foreman in Albany, Mo. In 1977, Morgan and Mikey moved back to Iowa and Day Partnership, a grain and livestock operation, was formed. In addition to farming, Morgan worked as a pickup man for seven years with Merritt Rodeo and was a truck driver for several years.

In addition to enjoying his family Morgan loved to hunt, fish and take trips with Mikey.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Mikey (Dipper) of rural Greenfield; his children, Heather Honkomp of Winterset, Mackinzie Wyllie of Dexter and Tad Day of rural Greenfield; his mother, Florence Day of Greenfield; one sister, Lynn Margheim of Mitchell, Neb.; four brothers, Scott Day III of Keota, Fred Day of Earlham, Jon Day of Brick, N.J. and Jack Day of Greenfield and six grandchildren.

Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Morgan Day, 57, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Penn Center Church, rural Earlham. Visitation is Tuesday, from 10 to 8 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Morgan Anthony Day, the son of Scott and Florence (Morford) Day was born July 29, 1949 in Denver, Colorado. He passed away on Friday, November 10, 2006 at the age of 57.

Morgan was raised on a farm in Madison County, Iowa. He graduated from Earlham High School with the Class of 1967. Following graduation, Morgan attended college in Miami, Oklahoma for two years. He furthered his education and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

On August 30, 1969, Morgan was united in marriage to Michel (Mikey) Merritt in Lanesboro, Iowa. This union was bless with three children: Heather (Shorty), Mackinzie (Beezle Bumper) and Tad (George). In addition to their given names, Morgan gave his children their special nicknames which will remain with them always.

Morgan worked as a farm manager for Curtis Allen and then as a ranch foreman in Albany, Missouri. In 1977, Morgan and Mikey moved back to Iowa and Day Partnership, a grain and livestock operation, was formed. In addition to farming, Morgan worked as a pickup man for seven years with Merritt Rodeo and was a truck driver for several years.

Morgan’s heart was bigger than life itself. He treasured not only his grandchildren, but the many ‘daycare kids’ that he & Mikey nurtured through the years. Thanks to their love for each other and all their kids there are untold families who carry special memories of Morgan and his wonderful bear hugs in their hearts. Some of his best times were spent doing chores with his grandkids, Cal (Bubba), Ty (Toughy/Ty Guy), Morgan (Sister Susie), Madison (Dolly), Jacob (Jakey Bob), and fixing breakfast every morning for little Lily (Curly Girly). In addition to enjoying his family Morgan loved to hunt, fish and take trips with Mikey. A special memory of taking trips was always looking out for that special place to stop and prairie dog hunt on the way.

He is survived by his wife, Mikey (Dipper) of rural Greenfield; his children and grandchildren: Heather Honkomp and husband, Jeff and their children Madison and Jacob of Winterset, Iowa; Mackinzie Wyllie and husband, Corey and their children Cal, Ty and Morgan of Dexter, Iowa; and Tad Day and wife Christy and their daughter Lily of rural Greenfield; his mother, Florence Day of Greenfield; one sister, Lynn Margheim and husband Rick of Mitchell, Nebraska; four brothers: Scott Day III and wife Elaine of Keota, Iowa, Fred Day of Earlham, Iowa, Jon Day of Brick, New Jersey, and Jack Day and friend Shelly of Greenfield; one sister-in-law, DeeAnn Stork and husband Gary of LaJunta, Colorado; and dear friend Judy Knudsen and husband Russ of Elkhorn, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

The family of Morgan Day wishes to express their gratitude for all acts of kindness shown to them in their time of sorrow and invites you to share in a luncheon served at the Penn Center Church following the graveside service.
