VERNON REHARD IS FOUND DEAD

Coroner Reports Death Due to Bullet Wound; Rites Held Saturday

F. Vernon Rehard of Winterset was found shot to death last Thursday morning, Feb. 9, in his bedroom at the house on East Washington street where he made his home with his mother.

The body was discovered by the mother. She called officers and an investigation was made by Coroner Paul Eggleston and Sheriff Rex Rouse. They termed the death suicide. A farewell note was found, but it gave no reason for his act. The officers estimated he had been dead six hours or more when found.

Mr. Rehard was 42 years of age. He was born March 16, 1913, in Madison county, a son of Leonard and Viola Rehard. His entire life was spent in Madison county.

He enlisted in the U.S. armed services on Sept. 16, 1940 and served through World War II, until receiving his discharge in the autumn of 1945.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Winterset.

Surviving are his mother; his wife; and two children, Leonard, aged 6, and Nina, aged 4.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Anderson's home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. George DeF. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Winterset. Military ritual was conducted by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery near Winterset.
