Ernest Julius Patterson, Peru

Funeral services for Ernest Julius Patterson, 89, who died at Madison County Memorial Hospital on September 14 were held at the United Methodist Church in Peru on Tues., Sept. 18.

Ernest, son of Baxter and Julia Funderburk Patterson, was born April 18, 1901. He was married December 25, 1922 to Lela Fern Alvis at Osceola.

In 1926, he moved to Alberta, Canada and returned to Iowa in 1945 and bought a farm where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela; four brothers, Art, Rex, Guy and Victor; one sister, Mabel Bembow; three half-brothers, John, Willis and Ed; a grandson, Gerald Baker and a great granddaughter, Nichole Patterson.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest and Kenneth; four daughters, Fern McCasland, Helen Stout, Shirley Givant and Julia Bruett; one niece, Janet Wadle; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Willa Patterson, and nieces and nephews.

Officiating at the service were Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera and Rev. Greg Sharp. Burial was at Fremont Cemeter in Clarke County.
