RITES SATURDAY FOR ELSIE VANCE

Winterset Resident Died Last Wednesday After Long Illness

Mrs. Harry Vance, a well-known Winterset resident, died at the Memorial hospital here Wednesday, Jan. 4, after a lingering illness. She had undergone major surgery early in October, and her condition had been serious since that time.

Mrs. Vance was 62 years of age at her death. She was the former Elsie Young, youngest daughter of Walter S. and Rose Beem Young. She was born in Winterset on May 8, 1893, and spent her entire life in this community.

She attended the Winterset schools, including the Winterset high school. As a young woman she was employed as a type-setter on the old Winterset News.

She was married March 18, 1914, in Winterset, to Harry Vance. They were parents of one son, W. Eugene Vance, who now makes his home in Gary, Ind.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by the one son and his wife, Eileen; by one granddaughter, Pamela Vance, of Gary; and two sisters, Bessie, Mrs. John B. White, and Blanche, Mrs. John Cornell, both of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
