George Lee Parker, 83, of Truro died Aug. 29, 2005 at the Clarke County Hospital Extended Care Wing.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Carol Lammatteo-Code officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Clarke County with military rites performed by American Legion Post 716 of St. Marys.
Lee Parker was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Corydon to George and Angie (Osborn) Parker and was educated in the Murray school system. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II from 1942-46. On Jan. 11, 1947, he married Edna Mae Spellerberg in Troy, Kan. They resided in Murray until moving to Truro in 1950. Lee was a farmer. He also worked for the Madison County Road Maintenance from 1961 until retirement in 1985. He was a member of American Legion Post 716 in St. Marys and the Lions Club and Congregational Christian United Church of Christ, both of Truro. He also was a 50-year member of Model Lodge 315 A.F. & A.M.
He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Terry Sue Parker; two brothers, Lyle and Don Parker; and two sisters, Margaret Moore and Mildred Parker.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathie Collins of St. Charles and Cindy Sanford of Osceola; a brother, Lester Richard Parker of Des Moines; a sister Wilma Cottrell of Creston; and five grandchiildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Church of Christ in Truro or Extended Care at Clarke County Hospital.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
