June 1975William (Bill) Edward Parker, a retired Madison county farmer, who moved to Winterset in 1973, died at his home Tuesday, June 24, 1975, at the age of sixty-one. Death was ruled a suicide by assistant Madison county medical examiner, Thomas Bergstrom, M.D.
Mr. Parker died of a self-inflicted shot gun wound in the basement of his home, according to a statement by Dr. Bergstrom.
William Parker was born December 1, 1913 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the son of Charles Parker and Mary Claria Bray. He was a resident of Madison County for 41 years.
In 1934 Mr. Parker was married to Eldora Mahan, who survives him. The couple had two daughters, both surviving. They are Sherry Palmer of Des Moines and Linda Jones of Tamuning, Guam.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a daughter, Deloris.
Also surviving Mr. Parker are four grandchildren, three brothers, Jack Parker of Des Moines and Glenn and Raymond Parker, both of Winterset, and one sister, Mrs. Lloyd McDonald of Winterset.
Funeral services for Mr. Parker were conducted Friday, June 27, 1975 at 11 a.m. from Collins Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Updike presiding. Burial was made at the Winterset Cemetery.
