George Otto, Kansas

George Wolever Otto, 90, of Kansas, died April 19, 1996 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Funeral services were April 23 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fredonia, Kan. The Rev. Clifford Horton officiated the services and the Rev. Dr. George Otto spoke for the family. Burial was at the Fredonia City Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 12, 1905 in Fredonia, Kan., to George R. and Belle J. (Wolever)Otto. He married Dorothy Lois Davis on July 19, 1930. He later married Dorothy Fern Marshall on Jan. 29, 1983. He was a Presbyterian Elder since 1948 and a member of the Rotary since 1958. He received the Outstanding Alumnus Award of the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1979 and served as President of the Iowa Municipal Electric Cooperative Association. He was an electrical engineer, and headed several departments at Western Electric in Suburban Chicago. He later served as Superintendent of Utilities in Fredonia from 1947-1956, and in Estherville and Winterset from 1958-1974. He retired in 1975.

He was preceded in death by both wives.

Surviving relatives include one son, George Wesley Otto of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Lois Marie Beal of Bothell, Wash., and Elisabeth Jane Wisemiller of San Diego, Calif.; one step-daughter, Shalene Taylor of Independence, Mo.; one brother, Roy S. Otto of Sylmar, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Fredonia or the Fredonia Regional Hospital.
