William Patterson Houlette was born in Menard county, Illinois, May 15, 1851, and died at his home west of St. Charles Sunday, November 13, 1932, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 28 days. In the fall of 1867 he moved to Iowa with his parents, who settled near where Truro now stands. In 1879 he moved to the farm west of St. Charles, where he resided till the time of his death.
On December 24, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Magdalene Hattel at Hanley and to this union were born two sons, George T. and William D. Houlette.
In 1869 he united with the Baptist church in Winterset, but after his removal to St. Charles, became a member of the Methodist church at Hanley and lived a Christian life until the time of his decease. He also became a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge about 40 years ago. He was a loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two sons, George at home and William D. of Iowa City, one brother, L. S. Houlette of Miami, Florida and one sister, Mrs. Susan Slinker, of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by his pastor, L. W. Nixon, assisted by Rev. Carnahan of the United Presbyterian church with burial in the St. Charles cemetery.
