Obituary

Died – December 23d, 1878, of dropsy, Mrs. Amelia Cason, of Bevington, after a long illness of eight weeks, in which great suffering was patiently endured.

Mrs. Cason was born in Kentucky and removed to Madison county, Iowa, in 1849, where she has since resided, maintaining throughout a long life, a consistent Christian character, and in her last moments experienced the support and presence of her Saviour as she entered the dark waters rejoicing in His sustaining power.

Mrs. Cason died on the anniversary of her 76th birthday, leaving a large circle of friends to mourn her loss, and be benefited by the lesson of a life spent in the service of the Master. “Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and enter in through the gates into the city.”

Note: Amelia (Elston) Cason was born Dec. 23, 1802, burial in Brush Ridge Cemetery, Sec. 34 of Crawford Twp, Madison County, Iowa.

Winterset Madisonian-Diamond Jubilee issue
October 15, 1878

Thomas Cason, who died December 27, 1855, at the age of 62 years and his widow Amelia, who died December 23, 1878 were very early settlers in the east part of Madison county. They came in July 1847 and bought the claim of Hiram Hurst who was the first settler in Madison county. This claim was in Section 36 of the present Crawford township. The land is now owned by Frank Trumbauer.

They were the parents of William T. Cason and T. T. Cason, well known families fifty years ago. Mrs. Georgia Way is a daughter of William T. Cason, Barbara Cason of T. T. Cason.
