Dixie Janet Nicholson, 59, of Des Moines died of a heart attack, complicated by diabetes, March 2, 2001 at the Truro home of her mother, Alice Gracey.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, March 7) at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro with the Rev. Richard Harbart officiating. Burial was at Fields Cemetery in rural Clarke County.

Dixie Nicholson was born Jan. 9, 1942 in Des Moines to Foss Merton and Alice Blanche (Soper) Gracey. She received her education in the Truro Consolidated School System, graduating from Truro High School in 1960. She also attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo. Dixie retired in September of 1997 as a federal government employee with the IRS (office audit). She had lived in Des Moines for the past 18 years; prior to that time she had resided in Truro. She was a member of the Truro Alumni Association (president), Federal Employee Union and the Congregational United Church of Christ of Truro. She also was a newspaper correspondent for the Osceola, Winterset and Indianola newspapers.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister.

She is survived by her mother; a sister, Diana Bedwell (husband Galyn) of Norwalk; a brother, Danny J. Gracey of Antioch, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to her family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Truro and Osceola.
