Opal Nicholl, Winterset

Opal G. Nicholl, 93, died of respiratory failure Sept. 12, 2002 at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 16 at Sunset Funeral Chapel in Des Moines. Buurial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, also in Des Moines.

Opal Nicholl was born July 6, 1909, in Madison County to Eli and Elizabeth Lamb. On Oct. 3, 1926, she married Don Nicholl. She had lived in Martensdale and Des Moines before moving to Winterset in 1997. Opal and her husband had owned and operated several businesses in Martensdale and Des Moines. She also had been employed by Look magazine for 15 years as a subscription processor. She had been a member of the Martensdale Community Church, Garden Club and Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a son, Ivan Nicholl (wife Colleen) of Winterset; a daughter, Mildred Reed (husband Ray) of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
