CARL SAWYERS, Winterset

Carl Sawyers, 93, of Winterset died Nov. 7, 2006, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 10, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with Pastor Scott O’Conner officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and VFW Post 8142, both of Winterset.

Carl Sawyers was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Webster Township, Madison County, to Andrew and May (Pope) Sawyers. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. On Dec. 12, 1950, he married Dorothea Norris. Carl was a farmer for most of his life. He also stripped blue grass for seed across the Midwest in the 1950s and worked as a construction laborer. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Susan; and two brothers, Claire and Raymond Sawyers.

He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Winslow of New Virginia; one son, Steve Sawyers of Winterset; and five grandchildren.
