VERNON NELSON FATALLY INJURED

Former St. Charles Man Is Des Moines Accident Victim

Vernon L. Nelson, a resident of the St. Charles community most of his life, was fatally injured last Thursday, April 7, at an explosion in the Diamond Laboratories in Des Moines, where he was employed. He died that day at the age of 25 years.

Mr. Nelson was born in Madison county on April 15, 1934, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson of St. Charles. He lived here until he entered military service, in which he spent two years with the U. S. army in Korea. Since leaving the army he had lived in Des Moines.

He was a graduate of the St. Charles high school, with the class of 1953.

He was married July 19, 1958 to Patricia Ann Gilman of Earlham. They were parents of a son, Victor LaVern.

In addition to his wife and son, he leaves his parents; four brothers, Wayne, Max and Larry of St. Charles and Eugene of Des Moines; four sisters, Jesse, Shirley, Lois and Donna. A brother, Merle, died in 1958

Funeral services were held Sunday from the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Lott, pastor of Grace Methodist church in Des Moines. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Vernon L. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson of St. Charles was fatally injured in an accident at Diamond Laboratories in Des Moines April 7, 1960 at the age of 25 years, 11 months and 7 days.

He was born in Madison County April 15, 1934 and spent his entire life in this county with the exception of two years he spent in the U.S. Army serving overseas in Korea. He graduated from the St. Charles high school with the class of 1953.

On July 19, 1958 he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Gilman of Earlham. To this union one son Victor Laverne was born.

Besides his wife Patricia and small son, he is survived by four brothers, Wayne, Max and Larry of St. Charles, Eugene of Des Moines, and four sisters, Jessie, Shirley, Lois and Donna, and a host of relatives and friends. Another brother preceded him in death August 12, 1958.
