Wayne Nelson, Truro

Wayne Bert Nelson, 69, of Truro, died March 15, 1994 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were March 19, 1994 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro with the Rev. Richard Harbart of Des Moines officiating. Burial was at the Field Cemetery in Clarke County.

He was born May 1, 1924, in Lorimor to Bert William and Mabel (Ham) Nelson. He married Isabel Murl Blee on June 1, 1952 in Mitchellville. He was a farmer and lived most of his life in the Truro area. He was a member of the N.F.O., Farmers Union, American Legion in New Virginia, Truro Lions, Charter member of Osceola Eagles Lodge, ASCS committee member and county trustee. He was a member of the Madison Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving relatives include his wife; his mother; three sons, David Nelson and wife Marie of Des Moines, Paul Nelson of Truro, James Nelson and wife Judy of Mitchellville; one sister, Betty Ann Green of Osceola; one brother, Raymond Nelson of Truro; two grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

WAYNE BERT NELSON

Wayne Bert Nelson, son of Bert William Nelson and Mabel Ham was born May 1, 1924, at Lorimor and died March 15, 1994, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 69.

Mr. Nelson spent most of his life in the Truro area. He attended country schools and graduated from Truro High School.

He married Isabel Murl Blee on June 1, 1952 in Mitchellville and they became the parents of three children, David, Paul and James.

Mr. Nelson was a U. S. Army Signal Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Following his years of service he was a farmer in the Truro area.

Mr. Nelson was a member of the National Farmers Organization, Farmers Union, American Legion in New Virginia, Truro Lions, charter member of the Osceola Eagles Lodge, Agricultural Stabilization and conservation Service committee member, township board of trustees. He was also a member of the Madison Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving Mr. Nelson are his wife, Isabel of Truro; sons, David Nelson and his wife, Marie Nelson, of Des Moines, Paul Nelson of Truro and James Nelson and his wife, Judy Nelson of Mitchellville; mother, Mabel Nelson of Osceola; brother, Raymond Nelson of Truro; sister, Betty Ann Green of Osceola; two grandchildren, Lucas and Laura Nelson of Mitchellville; stepgranddaughter, Meredith Meister of Bloomington, Ill.; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Nelson were March 19 at Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Richard Harbart of Johnston officiating. The organist, Virginia Reynolds accompanied Terry Smith singing the Holy City and Precious Lord Take My Hand.

Casket bearers were Herb Fitzgerald, Larry Fitzgerald, Bob Snyder, Virgil Stanley, Rex Evison, John Brant and Laverne Schultz. Honor bearers are Aubrey Simmerman, Bill Evison, Ed Jones, Carl Beeler, Charlie Moore, Marret Edwards, Bill Green and Walter Brant. Interment was in Field Cemetery in Clarke County. Kale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
