LEO SPELMAN Of Winterset Dies

Leo B. Spelman, well known Winterset business man for many years, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 1963, at Memorial hospital here. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Spelman was a native of Grand Island, Nebr., where he was born March 30, 1890, a son of John and Martha Schull Spelman. He was educated at Valparaiso university in Indiana, and at Highland Park College of Pharmacy in Des Moines, where he received his degree in pharmacy.

He came to Winterset in 1914 and was employed as a pharmacist here for four years. Leaving Winterset in 1918, most of the next 29 years were lived in Chicago, where he operated a drug store. He returned to Wintersest in 1947, and had engaged in the operation of the Madison County Drug store here in partnership with his son-in-law, Stanley Berg, until Sept. 1 of this year.

He was married in Wintersest Oct. 30, 1915, to Ruth Schoenenberger of this community.

Mr. Spelman was affiliated with the National association of Retail Druggists, and the Iowa Pharmaceutical association. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Wintersest.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth Spelman of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Berg of Winterset; three grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Marie Donaldson of Los Angeles, Calif.

Rosary services were held Sunday evening from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, with funeral services Monday from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by the pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
