Funeral services for Lawrence Delbert Nelson, 69, of St. Charles were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Charles United Methodist Church. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery with Rev. Rolland Towell officiating. Mr. Nelson died Thursday, May 17, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
The son of John and Addie Wilkinson Nelson, he was born on August 13, 1909, at Spencer, Neb. He was educated in South Dakota and Minnesota schools and on January 18, 1930, was married to Alta Mae St. John at Chamberlain, S.D. A farmer Mr. Nelson had lived at St. Charles for the past 42 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alta; two sons, Merle and Vernon and an infant daughter, Gwinn Lorraine.
Survivors include four sons, Wayne Nelson, Max Nelson and Larry Nelson, all of St. Charles, and Raymond Eugene Nelson of Des Moines; four daughters, Jessie Clericuzio of Atwater, Calif., Shirley Ayers of St. Charles, Lois Downard of Des Moines and Donna Weeks of Indianola; two brothers, Louie Nelson of Stuart and Marion Nelson of Marion; three sisters, Ollie Sisson of Lake Andes, S.D., Anna Thompson of Gregory S.D., and Opal Anderson of Baldwin, Mo.; 28 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
