Winterset Madisonian - February 15, 1995

Thomas Jefferson Kephart, 93, of Spencer, died Feb. 6, 1995 at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer. Funeral services were Feb. 10 at the First Christian Church in Spencer. The Rev. Paul L. Davidson officiated the services with burial at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

He was born in Madison County on July 31, 1901 to Thomas and Marvie (Smith) Kephart. He married Edith Handy on April 9, 1923 in Spencer. He was a farm laborer and worked in Spencer at Spencer Cement Block Works, Department of Clay County and eight years for the Spencer Police Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son; one daughter; his parents; five brothers; five sisters; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Richard Kephart of Spencer and Clarence Kephart and wife Linda of Bakersfield, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Lavon Kephart of Spencer; two sisters, Edna Kephart of Winterset, and Hazel Snell of Greenfield; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
