Walter Louie Schaffer, 72, died Jan. 19, 1995 of a heart attack at his home near St. Charles. Funeral services were Jan. 23 at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Ed Poston officiating. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery.

He was born in Prescott on Aug. 16, 1922 to Charles and Cora (Sterling) Schaffer. He married Helen Marie Brownlee on Feb. 27, 1944. He was a farmer and a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the Rolling Wheels Camper's Club; the V.F.W., Matison County Post; and the St. Charles Parish Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include one son, Dick Schaffer and wife Dawn of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Marilyn Lawshe of Grimes, Patricia Faidley and husband Robert of Dallas Center, and Mary Schaffer of Winterset; three sisters, Dulcie McCoy of Modesto, Calif., Bernice Davison of Modesto, Calif., and Merle Taha of Pittsburgh, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
