Willard Alfred Smith, 73, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Jan. 14, 1995 of cancer at his home. A gathering of friends and relatives was held with services following held by the Masonic Lodge of Merritt Island at the Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home at Merritt Island. Burial with full military honors was at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

He was born Sept. 3, 1922 in Madison County to Harry and Edna Smith. He had graduated from Macksburg High School in 1939. He had flown bomber planes during World War II and later served as an air traffic controller specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 353 on Merritt Island and Scottish Rite in Dallas. He was a charter member of Azan Temple; Indian River Amateur Radio Club; American Association of Retired Persons; the Sojourner; Ostomy Club; Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association; and the National Associont; and the retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Constance of Merritt Island, Fla.; one brother, Harold Smith of Lancaster, Calif.; and one sister, Ruth Phearman of Los Gatos, Calif.
