Jessie Myrtle Jones, eldest daughter of Byron and Kate Loucks Jones, was born at Stuart, Iowa, January 11, 1883 and heard her summons to come up higher March 4, 1962 at Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 21 days, after a lingering illness.

Most of her childhood and youth were spent in Stuart, Iowa and vicinity. About 1900 she came with her parents to Earlham, Iowa. It was here she was united in marriage with Ward V. Nellis, December 27, 1906. To this union were born six children: Clyde, Ivan, Donald, Helen, Delbert and Erma. Her husband passed away November 22, 1945. Following his death, she made her home with a sister, Mrs. Rolland Dunlap in Des Moines for some years. Failing health made it necessary for her to be transferred to a nursing home in Winterset. A few months ago she was taken to the Horton Nursing Home where she remained until the time of her death.

Myrtle was a loving, busy mother and wife, ever caring for the needs of her household. But she was never too busy to lend aid to a neighbor and was especially helpful in times of sickness.

She was a member of the local Methodist church and was always interested in the work of the church and the Sunday School.

During her last, long illness she was patient and considerate of those who cared for her and was very appreciative of the remembrances and many acts of kindness shown her by her family and others. She was never a person to complain and always enjoyed visiting. She seldom spoke ill of another.

She is survived by three sons: Clyde of Monatee, Florida, Ivan and Delbert of Des Moines, (Donald passed away in 1943); one daughter, Helen Gilleland of Winterset, (Erma Nelson passed away in 1956); twenty grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Chloe Dunlap and Hazel Nichols, both of Shannon City, Iowa, and one brother, Clarence Jones of Seattle, Washington, besides a number of other relatives and friends.
