January 12, 2000Lois Anita Newton, 75, died Jan. 4, 2000, from complications of pneumonia at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Lorimor Cemetery.
Lois Newton was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Madison County to Weaver and Tressie Lenore (Gorr) Silverthorn. She was a graduate of Lorimor High School. A lifetime resident of Madison County, she had been a cook for the Winterset Community School District, retiring after 28 years. Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
She is survived by a son, Greg Newton (wife Tammy) of Norwalk; three daughters, Carol Crall (husband Leo) and Kathy Osborn (husband Scott), both of Ankeny, and Phyllis Vore of Des Moines; a sister, Freda Sexton of Winterset; a niece; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
